Sadly, Travis Colley-Zorrilla is not alone,
and the numbers are truly frightening.
Of the 243 spinal-cord injuries suffered
by Canadian hockey players over a 30-year period, some 50% affected boys
aged 16-to-20.
"These cases seem to come up about every
four or five months," laments Dr. Robert Cushman
, medical officer of health for the Region of Ottawa-Carleton.
His own son, Robert Jr., had his third
and fourth vertebrae fractured while playing on scholarship at a Boston university
four years ago.
